Reward for the shooting of an off duty cop

Chicago police today announced a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the conviction of whoever shot an off-duty officer last week on the South Side.

The 38-year-old officer was shot in the legs about 1:27 a.m. June 15 as he sat on a back porch with other officers in the Longwood Manor neighborhood.

The shots apparently came from Metra train tracks near the home in the 9700 block of South Genoa Avenue, police said.

A bullet went through the officer's right leg and pierced his left leg, and he was treated and released at a local hospital, police said.

The officer is a 10-year veteran assigned to the Central District.

The reward has been contributed by outside sources and organizations, police said in a news release issued today.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call 312-747-8271 or 1-888-YPO-SHOT.
