House Bill 4819 stalled in the state Senate Agriculture and
Conservation Committee this week and needs your support. This legislation, if
enacted, would expand the use of crossbows for hunting to provide increased
opportunities for new and experienced hunters alike. Please contact members of the Senate Agriculture
and Conservation Committee today and respectfully urge them to support House
Bill 4819 and the full inclusion of crossbows for hunting!
Similar policy changes in other
states have produced evidence to establish that allowing the unqualified use of
crossbows facilitates retention and recruitment of hunters. At a time when
hunter numbers are rapidly declining across the country, encouraging more
choices in means and opportunity to hunt can only help increase participation
and preserve our rich hunting heritage.
Additionally, hunters are more
likely to remain in the hunting ranks decades longer if allowed to use a
crossbow. This provides the benefit of more time in which they might recruit
and train the next generation of hunters. Further, younger hunters who do not
have the physical strength to adequately draw and shoot vertical archery
equipment are able to participate in the archery season pursuant to a
full-inclusion crossbow provision. Removing this physical barrier will
encourage more interest and respect for hunting at an earlier age, long before
other activities compete for their attention.
HB 4819 is scheduled to be heard next Tuesday, May
8. Please contact members of the Senate Agriculture and Conservation Committee
TODAY and respectfully urge them to support the expansion of hunting rights by
voting in favor of HB 4819.
