Two Former CHA officer's were busy late this morning to grab this gunman armed with AK-47 rifle fires into party crowd

Three men was killed and 10 others wounded, at least two critically, in five separate shootings on the South Side, police said this morning.

Five of the victims were wounded at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday a party in the 700 block of West 50th Place in the Back of the Yard neighborhood when a man armed with an AK-47 assault rifle opened fire on a crowd of partygoers, according to separate police sources.

The crowd included at least two members of rival gangs, police said. Police recovered the rifle after the shooting, but the shooter escaped, authorities said.

Two of the wounded, Jonathan Duncan, 22, of the 5200 block of South Racine Avenue, and Shondell Adams, 21, of the 700 block of 50th Place, were each pronounced dead at area hospitals, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The other three victims, a man, 28 and two females, ages 20 and 16, all suffered minor wounds and were listed in good condition, police said.

In the other fatal shooting, a 21-year-old man who was a passenger in minivan was shot in the chest while traveling in the 9300 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue at about 2:15 a.m., police said.

The victim, identified by the medical examiner's office as Dante Kyles, of the 400 block of East 88th Place, was driven to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

It's unclear whether he was the intended target.

In other shootings, two men and a woman were shot and wounded in the 100 block of East 60th Street in the Washington Park neighborhood at about 11:20 p.m. Sunday, police said.

The men, ages 33 and 27, along with the 27-year-old woman all suffered non-serious injuries, police said.

At about 9:53 p.m., two men in their 20s were each shot in the leg near 79th Street and Ingleside Avenue in the East Chatham neighborhood, police said.

Both men were hospitalized in good condition, a police spokesman said.

Just before 12:30 a.m. Monday, a 27-year-old man said he was walking in the 0-100 block of East 102nd Street in the Roseland neighborhood, when he heard gunshots and felt pain in his lower back. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, police said.

The shootings continue a pattern of multiple shootings that kept officers racing from incident to incident during the weekend.

No arrests were made as detectives were still gathering details on each shooting.

Gold Coast man gets jumped by animals

A man walking home from work was attacked and beaten by a large group of people on the city's Gold Coast late Sunday, police said.

The 36-year-old man suffered only a cut to the head during the 10 p.m. attack in the 800 block of North Dewitt Place, police said, citing early reports.

It was unclear whether his many attackers also robbed him.

The man was taken to nearby Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was expected to be released sometime this morning.

Police had no other details.

Several youth were charged Sunday following a similar attack Saturday night that left a man with a broken jaw.

At least 21 people were wounded late Saturday night into this morning in shootings across the city, several of which involved two or more people shot at once, according to Chicago police.

Police officials this morning were still gathering a list of confirmed shootings and victims during a hectic night that saw officers in some districts racing from one shooting to another. Preliminary numbers indicated that 21 people were wounded, police said.

One person -- a 16-year-old boy -- died after being shot on the porch of his Southwest Side home about 8 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Perhaps no district was busier than the Near West Side's Ogden District, where a total of nine people were shot in just two separate shootings.

In one incident, five people -- which included four victims younger than 20 -- were wounded as they stood with a large group in the 3300 block of West Douglas Boulevard in the Lawndale neighborhood at about 2:15 a.m., police said.

One of the victims, a 17-year-old boy, was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in serious condition for gunshot wounds to the buttocks and groin, police said.

The other victims, a 24-year-old man, a 16-year-old girl, an 18-year-old man, and a 19-year-old woman, all suffered non-serious wounds.

Earlier in the evening, four people, including a 15-year-old boy, were wounded in a drive-by-shooting in the 1300 block of South Avers Avenue in the North Lawndale neighborhood just before 11 p.m. Saturday, police said.

All four victims, who ranged from 15 to 25 years old, were taken to area hospitals in good condition with gunshots to the legs, police said. The teen suffered only a graze wound, police said.

At about 3 a.m., police discovered a male victim with multiple gunshots to his leg and abdomen in the 3800 block of West Ferdinand Street in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

While investigating that shooting, police said two more shooting victims from that scene showed up at Mount Sinai with non-serious wounds, police said.

About 6:09 a.m. today, two men were shot in the 2500 block of South Homan Avenue in the Little Village neighborhood, police said. One man was shot in the ankle and the other in the thigh. Their conditions were not known.

Wildebeast muggings being probed

Chicago police this morning were looking into at least three separate downtown muggings carried out by separate groups of attackers, as the city gears up for its busy summer festival season.

The attacks occurred among hundreds of tourists and music lovers who emptied out of Grant Park for the Chicago Blues Festival, which city officials tout as the largest free blues festival in the world.

One incident involved up to 10 attackers -- seven youths and three adults -- who beat and robbed a man in the 500 block of North State Street at about 9:50 p.m., police said.

The victim, a male tourist in his 40s, was being treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a broken jaw, police said.

At about 10:20 p.m., a couple was accosted by a group at the Lake/State Red Line station in the 100 block of North State Street, near the Chicago Theatre, police said.

In that attack, the couple were robbed and the man beaten by an unknown number of attackers, who fled. The male victim was also taken to Northwestern with non-serious injuries.

Police also received a report of a third attack near the Gold Coast, but investigators hadn't determined the exact location or time.

The attacks occurred as city officials were preparing downtown for the upcoming festival season, including Lollapalooza, The Air and Water Show and the Taste of Chicago, which are expected to bring thousands to the city and generate millions of dollars in revenue.

Authorities are already dealing with a higher number of homicides and shootings than the city had at the same time last year.

Wildebeast shoots up West Englwood

Three people were shot in their chests and critically wounded in the West Englewood neighborhood today.

Someone shot the three about 11:25 a.m. in the 7400 block of South Ashland Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.

All three were wounded in the chest, said Kubiak.

Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said two of the wounded were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition.

Kubiak said the third victim, also wounded critically, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Two people were shot this morning on the Far South Side including one who is reportedly in "extremely critical'' condition.

It happened at 10:23 a.m. at 111^th Street and Edbrooke Avenue, according to police News Affairs Office Laura Kubiak.

One victim was shot in the chest and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn while the other person remained on the scene being treated after suffering gunshot wounds to both arms, Kubiak said.

Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said one person taken in "extremely critical'' condition to Christ while the other was in critical condition.
