Alsip man arrested
After an Alsip man tried to holdup the Chipotle he used to work for, he fled to a nearby restaurant then refused to pay the bill, authorities said.
The manager of the restaurant in loop called police, who recognized that David Carroll matched the description of the armed robber who had cut a Chipotle worker while demanding money, according to court and police records.
Carroll, 31, on Friday allegedly entered the Chipotle in the 300 block of North Michigan Avenue covering his face with a white shirt and wearing 3-D glasses and gloves, displayed a large knife and revolver and was taken to the safe, Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Jennifer Hamelly said.
During the exchange he cut one of the employees on the hand then fled, prosecutors said.
He went to a restaurant in the 200 block of North Wabash Avenue and racked up a $50 tab, which he refused to pay prompting a call to police.
Police found the large kitchen knife tucked in Carroll's waistband, a black plastic toy gun and the 3-D glasses and gloves he’d worn during the robbery, according to prosecutors and court records.
He is charged with armed robbery, aggravated battery and attempted armed robbery, court records show.
Carroll, of the 4400 block of West 125th Street, wore a Chipotle uniform shirt Sunday as he appeared before Cook County Judge Israel Desierto.. Bail was set at $500,000.
A Chipotle representative was not immediately available for comment Sunday.
