Sarge' Sports:. Burlehe not the only one to throw a perfect game, Humber throws perfect game, Sox beat Seattle 4-0

SEATTLE -- Now that Philip Humber is back to a normal five-day schedule, Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura expects a more efficient effort from his starting pitcher Saturday against the Seattle Mariners.

Humber simply exceeded Ventura's expectations by throwing a perfect game as the Sox beat Seattle 4-0.

"I can't even put it into words," said the 29-year-old Humber, who dedicated the win to his wife, back home in Tyler, Texas. "I'm just so happy. There's so many good things happening right now."

In his second start of the season, Humber struck out nine. The closest the Mariners have come to a hit occurred with one out in the fourth when Dustin Ackley hit a line drive that Alex Rios reached high to grab in right field.

Humber seized the perfect game when pinch-hitter Brendan Ryan checked his swing on a 3-2 pitch that home plate umpire Paul Runge ruled he swung at. Catcher A.J. Pierzynski threw to first to complete the 21st perfect game in major league history.

"I don't know if I dominated them," Humber said. "Balls were hit at people. It was a well- pitched game and one I'll never forget. ... This is awesome. I'm so thankful."

Humber needed only 57 pitches to get through the first six innings. In the bottom of the seventh, Chone Figgins hit a hard grounder just a few inches wide of the first base line on a 1-2 count, then struck out on a 93 mph fastball. Ackley popped to short, and Ichiro Suzuki grounded to first.

In the eighth, Humber struck out Justin Smoak on an 84 mph slider. Brent Lillibridge, who entered the game in the bottom of the inning as a defensive replacement in left field, made a running catch near the left field line of Kyle Seager's drive, and Jesus Montero grounded to second to complete the inning.

The closest Humber came to a no-hitter occurred on April 25, 2011, at New York. Humber threw 6 1/3 no-hit innings before Alex Rodriguez hit a single.

Twenty perfect games have been thrown, and Philadelphia's Roy Halladay completed the feat against Florida on May 29, 2010. The last Sox pitcher to throw a perfect game was Mark Buehrle against Tampa Bay on July 23, 2009.

Paul Konerko led off the second with his 398th home run, and he barely missed another homer in the third when he hit an RBI single off the left field wall.A.J. Pierzynski followed with an RBI single.
