RIVERSIDE, Ill. — A pack of coyotes chasing after a suburban Chicago man's dogs leapt over a fence and raced up to the home, but didn't stop there.
In an especially brazen attack, they broke glass panels on a door while trying to get inside the man's house on Friday.
Roger Nelson of Riverside says even after he rushed his dogs inside, the four coyotes were snarling, bearing their teeth and clawing at the door.
He fired a high-powered BB gun, striking two of them and scaring them away.
Riverside Police Sgt. William Gutschick says he's been a police officer for 25 years and had never before heard of coyotes trying to get into a home while chasing pets.
SPRINGFIELD — When lawmakers return to Springfield this week, suburban officials will be among the leaders on a handful of tough issues likely to dominate debate almost until the summer.
The underlying challenge will once again be the state's troubled finances, an issue that affects how suburban schools operate, with what kind of security local teachers will retire and how local disabled people get — or don't get — the services they're desperate for.
Illinois has no spare money, and the future looks as dark as ever.
"I expect this year to be even tougher than last year." said state Rep. Fred Crespo, a Hoffman Estates Democrat and chairman of a House budget committee.
The long march toward lawmakers' May 31 budget deadline will have an extra hurdle, Crespo said, as they might try to find money to shore up programs in the current year's budget.
Illinois Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka, a Riverside Republican, says without a $1 billion infusion, some agencies will run out of money before the June 30 end of the fiscal year. But the state isn't likely to find that much money lying around. So lawmakers might have to fight over redistributing the smaller amount they do have.
On top of that, the state's pension bill could be substantially bigger this year.
State Rep. David Harris, an Arlington Heights Republican, said this year's payment might be up to $1 billion more than last year. Paying it would make it even harder to cover shortfalls in human services.
"It is my hope that we can craft a budget in a bipartisan way that funds the state of Illinois as reasonably as possible," Harris said. "But because of our situation, it is going to be difficult."
The day after lawmakers were inaugurated this month, House Democrats met in private to go over some of the details of the state's dire finances.
"That's no big secret," Crespo said. "The question is what are we going to do?"
A lot of budget hawks think the first thing lawmakers should do is cut back teachers' and state workers' pension benefits. Rising costs every year suck money out of the pot lawmakers can spend on education, health care for the poor and other programs.
State Rep. Elaine Nekritz, a Northbrook Democrat, is one of the leaders on the issue. She made stops at some school board meetings across the state to talk about it, including at Community Unit District 300 in Carpentersville last week.
"If I get an invitation, I don't turn it down," she said.
Harris has met with local school officials to talk about the controversial proposal to have school districts pay millions of dollars more a year toward teachers' retirements.
But workers and their powerful union leaders continue to push back against cuts. And a plan Nekritz has championed might be impossible to reconcile with a competing idea pushed by Senate President John Cullerton and complimented recently by Gov. Pat Quinn.
The delays in addressing the state's nearly $100 billion in retirement fund debt have led to credit downgrades, the most recent coming Friday. If the state's rating continues to crash, borrowing money to build roads and other projects will get more costly.
"We simply cannot afford continued downgrades at a time when we urgently need to restore stability and balance to the state's fiscal climate," House Republican Leader Tom Cross of Oswego said.
Even if officials can find a pension compromise before May 31, lawsuits and other factors likely will mean they won't get to reap the savings in the coming year's budget. The growing fear of not getting it done for the following year, though, keeps them working.
"It isn't like we've taken our foot off the gas," Nekritz said.
Budget issues aside, lawmakers also face three controversial "Gs": gun rights, gay marriage and gambling expansion.
Gambling expansion has huge implications for the suburbs, as most proposals call for slots machines at Arlington Park and new casinos in Lake County, Chicago and the south suburbs.
State Sen. Terry Link, a Waukegan Democrat and top supporter of expansion, says he wants to work with Quinn to find a compromise on the issue this year.
On gay marriage, supporters' attempt to approve it in the waning days of the last session sputtered. They might see 2013 — with more Democrats in the House and Senate — as a good environment to try again.
And suburban officials could be leaders on both sides of a bitter debate on guns.
State Sen. Dan Kotowski, a Park Ridge Democrat, is one of the party's top gun control advocates, calling for restrictions in the wake of 2012's mass killings. And state Rep. Ed Sullivan, a Mundelein Republican, is a leader on the other side, pushing to give Illinoisans the right to carry a concealed gun. A federal court ruled lawmakers must enact such a law soon, but appeals could drag that effort out.
The Illinois House returns to session Wednesday, and the Senate starts back up next week

NEWTOWN — Members of government, law enforcement, and mainstream media alike, including CNN‘s Anderson Cooper and possibly members of his staff have now been implicated in possibly aiding in a treasonous plot to destroy the Constitution of the United States of America at the presidential level. Media giant CNN has now been caught airing what appears to be “active-shooter drill footage” from another school location and passing it off as the LIVE breaking news feed of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that took place on the 14th of December, 2012 in the morning that left 26 people dead according to reports.
To clarify for the readers, the active-shooter drill footage was likely aired to serve as a cover and help the gunmen to escape from Sandy Hook Elementary School after the shootings. Keep in mind evidence presented in previous articles published by theintelhub.com, video and actual police scanner audio suggests that multiple shooters were in fact involved.
Indeed there was actual footage of Sandy Hook Elementary School aired the morning of the shooting on CNN and other networks, this is not being disputed. Take the clip of the police chasing two men into the woods for example.
However, the footage in question (where the police storm the school entrance) is being pointed out as the “red flag” signifying that there was possibly a simultaneous active-shooter drill being conducted at St. Rose Pre School running in tandem with the actual mass shooting. If this is the case the implications are unfathomable.
What does this mean?

The caption on the LIVE CNN broadcast with Anderson Cooper’s logo to the left on the ticker bar read that morning, “BREAKING NEWS… Source: Mother of Suspected Gunman Also Killed”. However, after closer analysis this is not footage of the Sandy Hook School grounds or shooting, but rather a different location entirely, signifying an advanced government sponsored false flag operation was possibly being conducted that morning in and around Sandy Hook.Read more by clicking here
Flames have rekindled this morning at a Bridgeport warehouse that was gutted by a massive extra-alarm fire earlier this week.
Fire officials had expected the fire to start up again because of the magnitude of the 5-11 alarm blaze and the old timber in the warehouse, according to Chicago Fire Department spokeswoman Meg Ahlheim.
"We expected it. We have companies working there again," she said. "We were working there well into yesterday."
A still-and-box alarm, standard for working fires, was called this morning and a rapid intervention team was on the scene in case any firefighters are hurt.
“No one’s going in,” Ahlheim said. “We do have (a team) at every working fire.”
Firefighters had expected the fire to rekindle, especially in areas where the roof and floors had collapsed, Ahlheim said. “There are hot spots under those collapses we haven’t been able to reach. When debris gets moved, there’s more oxygen for the fire to grow,” she said. “Then we get to those hot spots.”
“This is something we had expected and had seen before,” she said.
The fire originally broke out at the former Harris Marcus Group building at 3757 S. Ashland Ave. Tuesday evening. Extra alarms were quickly called as the fire spread throughout the warehouse and the roof collapsed and the more than 200 firefighters contended with frozen hydrants and icy ladders.
Chicago Fire Cmsr. Jose Santiago said the fire was Chicago's largest in seven years. "This was a very large fire, unbelievable fire load, a lot of wood, timber, old stuff, varnish," Santiago said on the scene. "Once it caught, it caught and ran.
"Everything is wood inside these buildings, beautiful façades on the outside. They've been up for a long time. When they start burning like this, they start coming down," Santiago said
We notified Come Ed and they are putting in a Smart Grid they claim it will help manage your electricity. How ever when it comes to Naperville we asked if Com Ed employees are the ones going on to the property of residence and if the employees were knocking on the doors and identifing themselves. WGN and Fox News Chicago grabed footage of a No Trespassing sign and a cable lock on the gate which you see someone dressed as a utility worker and two plain clothes police officers cut the cable lock and walk on to the property that is fenced in and then they arrest the home owner. We left a message on the city enginiers answering machine as for a comment. We doubt he will call us. But we have a message for Naperville I dare you to come on to my property with out my permition and you and the police will go home in body bags.
Rock star legend and gun rights advocate Ted Nugent, said that the right to keep and bear arms does not need to be re-interpreted.
Speaking at the "Shot Show" in Las Vegas on Jan. 17, Nugent told Guns.com: "We need to raise maximum increased hell with our elected officials saying that the right to keep and bear arms does not need to be re-interpreted."
"That 'keep' means it's mine, you can't have it, and 'bear' means I have some on me right now and they're loaded."
Nugent said that anyone who seeks to undermine the 2nd Amendment must be treated like King George. He also took a swipe at Attorney General Eric Holder for his involvement in the gun-running scandal, "Fast and Furious."
"Anyone that infringes upon that must be treated like King George," Nugent said.
"And when the number one gun crime in the history of America is a direct result of an attorney general, we the people better wake up - and I think we are waking up. But, I think this unprecedented threat against individual freedom and the Constitution will be countered with a new voting power in a fist of we the people like no one's ever seen before," he said.
A group of Utah sheriffs sent a letter to President Barack Obama last week stating that they will not enforce any new gun laws they believe to be unconstitutional.
28 of the 29 sheriffs in Utah signed off on the letter with only the Salt Lake County Sheriff, Jim Winder, opting out.
Summit County Sheriff David Edmunds says, "We are prepared to trade our lives in defense of the constitution of the United States."
Edmunds says the letter is a preemptive strike against the possibility of the president banning assault rifles, or restricting the amount of ammo in magazines.
The letter to the President states (emphasis added): "We, like you swore a solemn oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States and we are prepared to trade our lives for the preservation of its traditional interpretation."
"[P]lease remember the Founders of this great nation created the Constitution, and its accompanying Bill of Rights, in an effort to protect citizens from all forms of tyrannical subjugation."
While acknowledging respect for Obama's office, the sheriffs also issued a warning: "[M]ake no mistake, as the duly-elected sheriffs of our respective counties, we will enforce the rights guaranteed to our citizens by the Constitution. No federal official will be permitted to descend upon our constituents and take from them what the Bill of Rights-in particular Amendment II-has given them."
Sheriff Edmunds stated:
"We would never want violence to be the alternative. We would always hope we could talk this out but it's important to make this very significant stance as it relates to these issues because they are very fundamental to the freedoms we enjoy in this country."
