Idiot Quinn plans on signing in to law banning all type of firearms that have a mag capisity larger then 12 rounds
CHICAGO – Illinois could ban assault weapons under a plan proposed Tuesday by Gov. Pat Quinn, but any gun control regulation would have to clear major hurdles even with a renewed nationwide debate.
The Chicago Democrat used his amendatory veto power to gut a bill related to
ammunition sales and add language prohibiting the manufacture, delivery, sale
and possession of semiautomatic assault weapons and attachments. Illinois
lawmakers could accept or override the changes, or not call a vote at all.
The proposal – which specifically bans the AK-47, AR-15 and TEC-9 – was first reported by The Associated Press.
“It’s very clear that these particular weapons are not designed to do anything but to have human targets,” Quinn told reporters in Chicago.
The Colorado movie theater massacre has reignited debates about assault weapons and in recent days, a number of anti-violence advocates, including the Rev. Jesse Jackson, have called for similar action in Chicago.
Quinn recently signaled his support for a ban while noting the heroism shown by John Larimer, a 2003 Crystal Lake South High School graduate and a U.S. Navy seaman stationed in Aurora, Colo., who was killed in the theater attack.
A handful of states have assault weapons bans, including New Jersey and Massachusetts. A federal ban expired in 2004 and attempts to revive it have been unsuccessful.
While Illinois is the only state without a concealed carry law, an assault weapons ban would face strong opposition from the gun lobby – that is, if it’s called for a vote at all.
Quinn, who didn’t work with the sponsor of the original bill, has had little success with amendatory vetoes. And other gun control measures have failed in the General Assembly and Cook County’s assault weapons ban has undergone legal challenges. Earlier this year, the Illinois Supreme Court reversed lower-court rulings that found the ban constitutional, sending it back to trial court.
Quinn defended his tactic, saying the time for gun control is now. He cited the fatal shooting in Colorado and the 2008 shooting at Northern Illinois University that left five students dead.
The bill’s original sponsor, Republican state Sen. David Luechtefeld, called Quinn’s plan politics as usual. Luechtefeld accused Quinn of using the Colorado shooting to make headlines.

Whith in 18 hours
In 18 hours there was 1 bank robbery with a gun that was displayed, 1 man pulled a gun at a kids soccer game, 2 shot while walking down the side walk, 1 died from gun shot wound when a 54 year old man refused to give up his bicycle, 1 dead at North Ave. Beach, and a man was found shot in his driveway. Really this is uncalled for I think we need to protest in front of Madigan's office asking for his resignation or to pass a ccw permit. This is getting out of control.
Quinn Shacks down State Prisions
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Illinois authorities conducted a "mass shakedown" of guards and other prison employees last week, taking the unusual step of searching workers as they left correctional facilities and sparking allegations of reprisal for public complaints and leaked information to the news media, according to interviews and a document obtained Monday by The Associated Press.
An email written by a Department of Corrections administrator was sent to 10 southern Illinois prison wardens, telling them to conduct the shakedowns, on July 19. It was time stamped just 18 minutes after about a dozen workers began a public forum in the state Capitol to complain about conditions at Illinois prisons.
Corrections spokeswoman Stacey Solano declined comment Monday on the email obtained by the AP. She previously would not confirm that the searches were coordinated, but said such searches are a "routine security measure" to control banned materials, which range from cellphones to weapons.
The dustup over the pat-downs comes as Gov. Pat Quinn pushes a cost-cutting plan to shutter several state correctional facilities, including next month's scheduled closure of the "supermax" prison in Tamms. Prison workers have fiercely resisted that idea, fearing increased violence if currently isolated gang members are moved elsewhere.
The searches also began just days after a published report about where some displaced Tamms inmates would go. That report was based on an internal Department of Corrections document.
Department policy allows searches of employees at any time -- beginning, during or ending a shift -- to ensure they are not carrying banned materials, from magazines and cigarettes to illegal drugs and weapons.
But the employees' union said the recent searches -- body pat-downs as opposed to routine bag-checks and metal detector screenings -- are rare, and called them retaliatory "intimidation" of employees for speaking out. The department denies that claim.
Kim Larson, an accountant at the prison in Danville for 12 years, said she has never gone through a shakedown upon leaving her 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. shift like she did on July 23.
"It was weird. Usually, they do it at the beginning of the shift, when we're coming in," she said. "I mean, what are we going to take out?"
A female officer accompanied her to a restroom where Larson emptied her pockets and submitted to a pat-down. Larson said that type of search, even when arriving at work, is so unusual that she can't remember when it last happened.
The searches were conducted the week of July 23 at as many as 15 prisons, according to the internal email, interviews with workers and their union, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
The email from Ty Bates, an agency deputy director, went to wardens at ten prison facilities in southern Illinois and ordered them to "please ensure we conduct a mass shakedown on a shift of your choosing. We want to shake down staff leaving the facility," with the word "leaving" underlined in bold letters.
It was sent at 11:18 a.m., just minutes after the start of the workers' testimony critical of the governor's plans to close several prisons.
"We have no indication that there is any valid reason for these searches," Henry Bayer, AFSCME's executive director, said in a statement Monday. "Rather, the tactics and timing suggest they are part of a retaliatory effort by the administration to intimidate whistleblowers."
Solano, the prisons spokeswoman, said last week that the department "has full authority to search employees whenever it chooses" to ensure they aren't bringing in or helping move banned materials. "This is one such measure the department is taking to ensure safety and security inside the prisons," she said.
Solano denied that the department retaliates against staff and said employees are encouraged to report problems to the Office of the Executive Inspector General.
Quinn, a Democrat, wants to close the prison in Tamms and a women's prison in Dwight to save money. He said Tamms is underused and too expensive despite advocates' contention that its isolation of troublemakers reduces problems in other prisons which critics say are too crowded.
There are currently about 48,000 inmates in a system designed for 33,000. The department had 16,000 employees in 2002, but just more than 11,000 in June.
Criticism of the closure plan has increased after reports about violence and Tamms' shutdown.
The AP reported earlier this month, after tipped by people knowledgeable about the prisons, on a string of violent incidents and an inmate drug overdose in the previous six weeks.
Days after the workers union's public forum at the Capitol, Lee Enterprises newspapers in Illinois reported on an internal Department of Corrections memo that designated nine Tamms inmates for transfer to prisons out of state.
That prompted lawmaker complaints that Tamms should stay open and resulted in a letter to the newspapers from Corrections chief executive Jerry Buscher, warning that publication of the material would be viewed "as attempting to promote disorder within the prison system."
Union spokesman Anders Lindall said Corrections officials told the union the shakedowns were necessary because of a recent inmate cell search that turned up cellphones. Solano confirmed that contraband was found but would not comment further.
Toby Oliver, a correctional lieutenant at Tamms who was stabbed by an inmate at Stateville in 1995 and has criticized Tamms' closure, called it "coincidental" that the shakedowns began two days after the newspaper report. He said he never remembers an end-of-shift shakedown.
"What is coming out of the institution seems to be the priority," Oliver said. "You'd think it would be the other way around."
Joint task force brings down Chop shop
Law enforcers revealed on Monday that they're battling one of the most sophisticated auto theft rings they've ever seen, one that's stolen millions of dollars.
In one case, they said, thieves armed with inside knowledge drove a big car-hauling rig into a local dealership. They loaded it with eight luxury vehicles, then drove away to sell them for as little as 20 percent of their real worth.
This Cadillac Escalade was Exhibit A today for Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White and his investigators. It's one of about 200 vehicles worth more than $4 million that were stolen from dealers and then resold at huge discounts through shady and not-so-shady outlets.
"They put 'em up, Craig's List, newspapers, word on the street, any way they could get rid of a car. They would wash titles, retag stolen cars two or three times. It was relatively elaborate," Tim Gainer, NE IL Metro Auto Theft Task Force.
After police officers in Cook, Will, DuPage and Lake Counties had begun investigating; they got an unexpected boost from bureaucrats. The ring was washing its forged vehicle titles through currency exchanges. But they eventually ended up in the Secretary of State's office, where workers spotted a characteristic pattern.
"By using those characteristics, we were able to run some computer queries and identify a variety of vehicles that seemed to fall into that category," Ernie Dannenberger, Director, Vehicle Services Bureau said.
The combined effort has so far led to 21 arrests. Already convicted: Dominique Henley, sentenced to 8 years in prison, and his father, James Henley, sentenced to 30 months probation.
As for their buyers, who paid as little as $10,000 for cars worth $50,000 or more, Officials said a majority were criminals themselves. Perhaps only 20 percent were innocent victims.
"If it looks like the deal is too good to be true, nine times out ten it is," Secretary of State, Jesse White, said.

Mayor Bloomberg and Gov. Christie Throw Gun Control Insults Video and article

That's the pot calling the kettle black. Everybody already knows that Christie is a strong advocate of gun control, and that New Jersey has some of the strictest gun control laws in the country.
So, will that smear tactic actually do anything to hurt Christie’s chances of becoming a vice presidential nominee? Maybe, maybe not. It does raise an interesting question for Republican gun owners: would you still vote for Romney if he had Christie as his running mate?

It all started with comments from Bloomberg about the recent tragic shooting in Colorado: "This is killing people every day, and it's growing and it's not just an inner-city, east coast, west coast, big city phenomenon. Aurora is not a big city."
Gov. Christie made a jab at Bloomberg when he asked, “Can we at least get through the initial grief and tragedy for these families before we start making them political pawns?” He didn’t specifically name Bloomberg in his statement, but the implication was certainly there.
The outspoken mayor of New York retaliated by making an attack against Christie’s future political opportunities. Mitt Romney might be eyeing Christie as a potential vice president running mate, so Bloomberg tried to paint Christie as being an advocate of gun control: “Some people try to write it that he is opposed to what we are trying to do. That’s not so. Governor Christie has stood up for reciprocity. Governor Christie has said there are too many hand guns in New Jersey.”
